![INTERVIEW - BRIAN BURKE
First interview in a series of interviews I’ll be doing about people’s cooking lives.
What is the extent of your cooking skills?
hahaha
I don’t delve into that often; If I make pasta I smother it in butter. If theres meat involved, chances are there’s mayo or hot sauce as well. The closest thing I do to being creative when I cook is when I make chilli, I’ll put cheese and crutons, and occasionally goldfish.. because its like a cheese cruton.
Is that your favorite dish to make?
I guess. I don’t cook as a hobby, so there’s nothing I really get ‘psyched’ about making. But that’s what I put the most effort into making taste good I suppose.
What do you want to learn to make? Something that would be beneficial to learn?
Beneficial to learn would mean making something addie (girlfriend) and I would both like… what its called is slipping me. Well, scratch that until it comes to me. (pause) Buffallo Shrimp Quesadilla. Addie eats fish, so that’s something we can both eat.
Do you know any vegetarians/vegans? If so, how have they impacted your life?
Well, I know you, Justine, and Addie.
You inspire me to eat healthier, but not to go 100% vegan.
What scares you off about veganism?
I’d just definitley miss the taste / texture (of meat). Nothing else is like it at all. You couldn’t give me a meat substitute in which it’d overtake meat for my preference.
Not to say vegan food isn’t good, I just wouldn’t eliminate meat from my diet.
What is the one ingredient that makes everything right in the world? Why?
Hot sauce. It’s overpowering and delicious. If something is mediocre and barely tolerable, I can make it ‘good’ and enjoyable with hot sauce alone.
Italian dressing is probably a close second.
If you could only eat one food the rest of your life, what would it be?
It’d be a good salad. Thats not my number one priority if I’m ordering food at a restaraunt or something, but if I’m to think about something I wouldn’t get sick of day after day.
It’d be a good salad with italian dressing.
I’m trying to imagine that situation.
If I said wings like I originally wanted to, I’d hate myself after like 3 weeks of living like that.
Does anything interest you about veganism/ vegetarianism, even if it wasnt full time?
Interested to see if it’d give me an eventual spiritual change. I’m sure it would give me a more clear headed and lighter feeling over time. When I went all health-nuts before, there was definitely a considerable change in how I felt, thought about things.
I’d eat a bowl of spinach every 20 minutes, and for dessert I’d have fruit.
Where can we find you online?
