Vegan diets becoming more popular, more mainstream
Once mocked as a fringe diet for sandal-wearing health food store workers, veganism is moving from marginal to mainstream in the United States.
I began to notice this a little over a year ago, but wasn’t sure if I was just imagining things. Sometimes if you have your eyes open for a particular cause or topic, it is more likely to come to your attention.
After talking about this with Brian (who was a vegetarian since 15 and a vegan a few years after), he pointed out that vegan options used to be unheard of in grocery stores until just a few years ago.
Even though there is an increased demand for vegan products in stores, it’s also true that people as a whole are getting sick and tired of being fed chemicals. For this reason, whether or not it lands in full-time veganism, there is a greater push towards reclaiming health and controlling what ends up on our plates.
